Step 2. Make a copy of databases, scripts, and
plug-ins
You must make a copy of any database files, script files, and plug-ins
you used with FileMaker Server 7. After you run the Restore Settings
tool, you will have to move these files to the new locations within the
FileMaker Server 8 folder structure.
In a default FileMaker Server 7 installation, database files, script files,
and plug-ins are stored in the following folders:
Database files
Windows: \Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server 7\Data\
Databases
Mac OS: [hard disk]/Library/FileMaker Server 7/Data/Databases/
Server plug-ins
Windows: \Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server 7\Extensions\
Plugins\
Mac OS: [hard disk]/Library/FileMaker Server 7/Extensions/Plugins/
Plug-ins to be updated automatically on client machines
Windows: \Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server 7\Data\
Databases\AutoUpdate\
Mac OS: [hard disk]/Library/FileMaker Server 7/Data/Databases/
AutoUpdate/
Command files (Windows) or shell scripts (Mac OS)
Windows: \Program Files\FileMaker\FileMaker Server 7\Data\
Scripts\
Mac OS: [hard disk]/Library/FileMaker Server 7/Data/Scripts/
Step 3. Save your settings
If you want to save your FileMaker Server 7 preferences and
schedules, you must use the Back Up Settings tool before you
uninstall FileMaker Server 7.
Note To run the Back Up Settings tool you must use a login account
with administrative privileges.
1. Insert the FileMaker Server 8 CD into the CD or DVD drive.
2. Double-click the Back Up Settings icon.
3. Mac OS: Enter your Mac OS authentication passphrase and click
OK.
4. Click OK to quit the Back Up Settings tool.
Step 4. Uninstall FileMaker Server 7
Note After you have saved your FileMaker Server 7 settings you can
uninstall FileMaker Server 7.
Important
1 Before removing FileMaker Server from your computer, be sure to
stop the FileMaker Server 7 Helper and FileMaker
Server 7 services
(Windows) or daemons (Mac
OS), and exit FileMaker Server Admin.

1 If you didn’t back up your settings in step 3, the uninstallation
process will delete them, and you won’t be able to use the Restore
Settings tool.
