Installation and New Features Guide

New features 21
1 The status area can be shown or hidden by the user, or hidden by
the database designer for a custom interface.
Web users also benefit from other new FileMaker Pro 7 features.
1 Access privileges are more tightly integrated with the database
schema, so you can:
1 Manage user permissions to access specific records, layouts, and
fields, and now, specific scripts.
1 Restrict sharing access based on specific technologies (Instant
Web Publishing, XML, and so on).
1 Require users to specify both account and password data when
logging in to secured files.
1 When web users connect, individual, multi-threaded sessions are
maintained—like web applications, their transactions are
“remembered” across multiple screens. To the host machine, there is
no difference between a session started from a web client or a
FileMaker Pro client. This means that tasks performed by web users,
such as creating found sets and sorting and navigating records no
longer affect the database on the host computer.

Instant Web Publishing Guide,

Documentation folder (inside the English Extras folder).

For information on recommended file protection practices, see the
FileMaker Security Guide, located in the Electronic Documentation
folder (inside the English Extras folder).
New and updated templates
FileMaker Pro comes with a collection of templates, which are pre-
designed and formatted database files or web pages that you can
copy and change for your own use. The templates have been updated
in appearance and functionality.
For more information, see Customizing the FileMaker Pro
Templates,
located in the Electronic Documentation folder (inside
the English Extras folder).
Conversion of dates with two-digit years
FileMaker Pro permits you to enter dates with two-digit years such
as “4/4/99” and “12/12/03.” However, these dates are ambiguous
because they do not specify the century; entering “11/16/53” could
represent the year 1953, 2053, or the 53rd year in any other century.
When you enter dates with two-digit years into a date field,
FileMaker
Pro converts them to four-digit years using a conversion
method described in the Help topic “Conversion of dates with two-
digit years.” This conversion method may not convert the two-digit
year dates that you enter into the century that you expect, which may
result in inaccurate date entries. For more information, see the Help
topic.
