Links in a FileMaker Pro file are set to update automatically, but you can
change them to update manually.
Note If you delete the source file for a linked object, FileMaker Pro can’t
update information in your database.
To update, change, or delete a link:
1. In Browse mode, display the record (or in Layout mode, display the
layout) that contains the link.
To work with links in a related file, select a related field in Browse
mode. See chapter 10, “Using data from related files.”
2. Choose Objects from the Edit menu, and then choose Links.
3. In the Links dialog box, select a link, make your changes, and then
click Close.
Note If you select a related field in step 1, the Links dialog box
displays all links in the related file that are in the current record.
To update this type of link Do this
Automatic 1 Activate the object
1 Select the object, choose Objects from the Edit menu, and
then choose a command (like Open)
Automatic or manual 1 Click Update Now in the Links dialog box. (See the
following instructions)
1 Perform a script with the Update Link step. See
chapter 5, “Using ScriptMaker and buttons.”
1 Select the Update all Links before printing option in the
Print dialog box. See “Printing” on page 6-11.
To Do this
Delete a link Click Break Link. FileMaker Pro converts the linked object
to a graphic that you can’t activate
Change the path for a link Click Change Source, enter the new path, and then click OK
Change how links are updated Select Manual or Automatic
Update a link Click Update Now
Open the application that
created the object
Click Open Source
