4-14 FileMaker Pro User’s Guide
2. Use the techniques described in the following table.
Keep these points in mind:
1 To disable drag and drop for text in fields, deselect Enable drag and
drop text selection in the General area of the Preferences dialog box.
See “Setting general application preferences” on page 9-2.
1 Because FileMaker Pro files can only receive OLE objects, you can
copy a link from the application, but you can’t link to an embedded
object in a FileMaker Pro file. For more information about OLE, see
appendix D, “Linking and embedding objects.”
1 You can’t drop an object into a locked record or a noneditable field.
When you try to do this, you see an Invalid Drop pointer.
To Do this
Move an object from one
application to another
Select the object, drag it (you see the Move pointer), and
then drop it onto the other application.
Move an object to an area not
visible in the other application
Continue dragging the object in the other application’s
window in the direction you want the window to scroll
(you see the Move scroll pointer).
Copy an object from one
application to another
Hold down Ctrl, drag the object (you see the Copy
pointer), and then drop it onto the other application.
Copy an object to an area not
visible in the other application
Hold down Ctrl, drag the object (you see the Copy scroll
pointer), and then drop it onto the other application’s
window in the auto-scroll region in the direction you
want the window to scroll.
Link an OLE object from a
different application to a
FileMaker Pro file
In the other application, hold down Shift-Ctrl and drag
the object (you see the Link pointer), and then drop it
onto the FileMaker Pro file.
Choose FileMaker Help Index from the Help menu, and then type:
E drag and drop
