130 Chapter 12 Syncing
To connect your device to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer:
1 On your device, click the Home button, then tap Settings, tap Wi-Fi, then
select a Wi-Fi network.
2 On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences > Network.
3 In the left side of the Network pane, click AirPort (Mac OS X 10.6) or Wi-Fi (OS
X Lion 10.7).
4 For Network Name, select the same Wi-Fi network that you connected your
device to.
5 Click Turn Airport On (Mac OS X 10.6) or Wi-Fi On (OS X Lion 10.7).
6 Click Apply, then close the Network pane.
Syncing for the First Time
After you have connected Bento for Mac and Bento for iPhone or Bento for iPad to the
same Wi-Fi network, you can sync the databases.
Before syncing, back up your Bento data. For more information, see ”Backing Up and
Restoring Information” on page 123.
To sync for the first time:
1 Do one of the following:
• Start Bento for iPhone, then tap .
• Start Bento for iPad, tap , then tap Sync.
2 Tap Sync with a New Computer.
3 A four-digit passcode appears.
Note If your device is not connected to a Wi-Fi network, an alert appears. To
connect to a Wi-Fi network, see
”Connecting Your Device to the Same Wi-Fi
Network as Your Computer” on page 129.
4 Start Bento for Mac, then choose File > Set Up Sync with Device.
5 Select your device, then click Continue.
6 In the Connect pane, enter the passcode that is displayed on your device.
The sync starts.
