Removing a DRAM DIMM
Follow these steps to remove a DRAM DIMM:
Step 1 Connect the wrist strap clip to an unpainted portion of the chassis frame to channel unwanted ESD
voltages to ground.
Step 2 Turn off power to the router.
Alternatively, the Cisco 3900 series routers support OIR. (See the “Online Insertion and Removal on a
Cisco ISR G2 Router” section on page 22)
Step 3 Locate the DRAM DIMM on the E-Series Server.
Step 4 Pull the latches away from the DIMM at both ends to lift the DIMM slightly.
Caution Take care not to dislodge the battery that is adjacent to the DIMM connectors.
Step 5 Pull the DIMM out of the socket as shown in Figure 17.

Place the DIMM in an antistatic bag to protect it from ESD damage.
