10.6 How Is Performance Data Stored?
Performance data is stored in the Oracle9i database.
Regular collection of performance data for all traffic-bearing facilities within the network can use up a
lot of space in the database. In order to conserve disk space, you can enable and disable the collection
of performance data on a per NE basis, as well as select the performance parameters that are of interest.
You can also choose to prune the database. Cisco MGM automatically performs daily pruning of all PM
data, FM data, audit log data, audit trail data, and Error Log data older than the specified retention
period. To configure automatic database pruning:
Step 1 In the Domain Explorer window, choose Administration > Control Panel.
Step 2 In the Control Panel window, click Database Properties to open the Database Properties sheet.
Step 3 In the Database Properties sheet, click the Pruning tab. See Figure 10-5.
Choose PM Data. This specifies the number of days to save PM data before Cisco MGM runs the
database pruning script. You can save from 1 to 1000 days of data. The default value is 7 days. You can
also specify the time to prune the PM data by choosing the hour and the minute from the HH, MM, and
AM/PM fields. Minutes are listed in 5-minute intervals. Click Enable to activate PM data pruning.
Step 4 After making the selection, click Save. Changes take effect immediately.
You can also run database pruning scripts to prune Cisco MGM data from the Oracle database at any
given time. Pruning scripts allows users to prune all PM data. See “5.1.4 Pruning the Database” section
on page 5-13.
