Installation Prerequisites
When installing an NPE-300 in a Cisco 7200 VXR router that is using a previously purchased I/O
controller, you must replace the existing Flash SIMM on the I/O controller (see Figure 1) with the
updated Flash SIMM that shipped with your NPE-300. The updated Flash SIMM contains the new
boot image you need to boot your router. (Refer to the “Removing and Replacing Memory DRAM
SIMMs, SDRAM DIMMs, and Boot ROMs” section on page 20 for instructions.)
Note The NPE-300 is only compatible with the Cisco 7200 VXR routers. The NPE-300 is keyed
to prevent insertion in the Cisco 7200 routers (7202, 7204, and 7206).
Table 12 lists the recommended minimum Cisco IOS software release to use the I/O controller in
supported router platforms.
