Table 11 Flash Disk Memory Options
Note For procedures that explain how to use the flash disk PC card, refer to the Using the Flash
Disk document that accompanies every Flash Disk shipped from the factory.
Installation Prerequisites
This section provides hardware and software requirements, and a list of parts and tools you need to
remove main, Flash, and ROM monitor memory in the Cisco 7200 series routers and the
Cisco uBR7200 series routers. This section also includes safety and ESD-prevention guidelines to
help you avoid injury to yourself and damage to the equipment.
Parts and Tools
You need the following tools and parts to replace the main, Flash, and ROM monitor memory in the
network processing engine and the I/O controller. If you need additional equipment, contact a
service representative for ordering information:
New DRAM or Flash SIMMs, SDRAM DIMMs, boot ROM, flash disk PC cards or Flash
memory cards
Number 2 Phillips and a 3/16-inch, flat-blade screwdriver
An 8-mm wrench or nut driver, or adjustable wrench (for connecting a grounding lug to a
Cisco uBR7200 series DC-input power supply)
A 7-mm wrench or nut driver, or adjustable wrench (for connecting the DC-input power lead
strain-relief cover to a DC-input power supply)
Tape (for securing the switch handle of a DC circuit breaker in the OFF position)
Your own ESD-prevention equipment or the disposable grounding wrist strap included with all
upgrade kits, FRUs, and spares
An antistatic mat or surface, or static-shielding bag
Small needlenose pliers
If your router is mounted in a 4-post or telco rack, make sure you have at least one other person
available to assist you with removing the chassis from the rack.
In addition, replacing the boot ROM on the I/O controller requires a DIP-type integrated circuit (IC)
removal tool (see Figure 8) or a small flat-blade screwdriver. Replacing the boot ROM on the
NPE-200 or the NPE-300 requires a PLCC-type IC extractor tool (see Figure 9).
