Chapter 6 Troubleshooting the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch Platform
Platform Troubleshooting
Caution To correct the system time on the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitches, you must log in as root. You should
closely control the use of the superuser (root) password and privileges.
NTP is Not Used and the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch is Not the Source of the CDRs
To correct the system time when NTP is not maintaining system time, and the Cisco PGW 2200
Softswitch is not the source of the CDRs, perform the following procedure. If you perform this procedure
during a maintenance period, it does not affect service.
Step 1 If the time on one Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch is correct, proceed to Step 2. If the time is incorrect on
both Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitches, proceed to Step 3.
Step 2 If the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch with the incorrect time is the active Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch,
perform a manual switchover, as described in the “Performing a Manual Switchover” section on
page 3-96.
If the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch with the incorrect time is the standby Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch,
proceed to Step 3.
Step 3 Stop the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch software on the standby Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch (which has
the incorrect time), as described in the “Shutting Down the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch Software
Manually” section on page 2-4.
Step 4 Correct the time on the standby Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch by issuing the UNIX command date. For
more information about the date command, see the man page for date.
Step 5 Restart the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch software on the standby Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch, as
described in the “Starting the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch Software” section on page 2-2.
If the time was incorrect on only one of the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitches, the procedure is complete.
Otherwise, repeat Step 1 through Step 5 for the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch on which the time is
incorrect.
NTP is Not Used and Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch is the Source of the CDRs
To correct the system time when NTP is not maintaining system time, and the
Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch is the source of the CDRs, perform the following procedure.
Caution This procedure affects service. Performed the procedure during a maintenance period.
Step 1 Stop the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch software on both Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitches, as described in
the “Shutting Down the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch Software Manually” section on page 2-4.
Step 2 Correct the time on both Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitches by issuing the UNIX command date. For more
information about the date command, see the man page for date.
Step 3 Restart the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch software on both Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitches, as described
in the “Starting the Cisco PGW 2200 Softswitch Software” section on page 2-2.
