Preparing the Cards
Note Do not connect both W5 and W6 jumpers. The setting is not supported.
Caution Turn off the IGX node before removing or inserting the SCM card. Damage to the node can occur if you
insert the SCM card while the node is on.

Tools and Equipment
Installing an IGX 8420 switch requires the following tools and equipment:
• Box knife (or equivalent)
• Flat-blade screwdriver set
• Phillips screwdriver set, which must include a No. 1 size for front card installation
• ESD-preventive wrist strap
• A variety of wrenches, possibly including an adjustable wrench or channel locks, for raising and
lowering cabinet feet (for example, a Cisco cabinet requires a 1 3/8-in. wrench)
• 5/32-in. Allen wrench for opening the IGX 8420 door (Cisco provides a wrench.)
