1.2 Cisco IOS Software Feature Licenses
Another type of license, Cisco IOS Software feature license, is commonly referred to as a feature
license. In some cases, additional value-added functions are provided in software images but the
base Cisco IOS Software license does not cover them. Cisco offers the right to use these features
through a feature license.
For example:
To use the H.323 Gatekeeper feature on a Cisco 7301 Router, the H.323 Gatekeeper
feature license, FL-GK-IPIP7301, is required.
To use the Multiservice IP-to-IP Gateway feature on a Cisco 3745 Multiservice Access
Router, the IP-to-IP Gateway feature license, FL-INTVVSRV-3745, is required.
Beginning with Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3(7)T in March 2004, the H.323 Gatekeeper
and Multiservice IP-to-IP Gateway (Cisco Unified Border Element) features can run
concurrently on the same hardware platform. In this case, the H.323 Gatekeeper feature
license, FL-GK-xxxx, provides the right to use both the H.323 Gatekeeper and the
Multiservice IP-to-IP Gateway features.
Note: A feature license conveys the right to use a feature, but it cannot add a feature to a
software release or software image that does not support it. For example, purchasing a
Gatekeeper feature license for Cisco IOS Software Release 10.0 or for the IP release for the Cisco
3745 will not upgrade the software to support the Gatekeeper features. Choose a software release
that supports all required features and then choose any necessary feature licenses.
The Cisco Unified Border Element provides the control and demarcation point at the enterprise
network edge for H.323 and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based voice and video services over
IP. You could use this functionality to provide a secure boundary between independent
administrative domains or simply as a proxy for enriched services within a single administrative
domain. The Cisco Unified Border Element performs many of the same functions as a traditional
time-division-multiplexing (TDM) based public switched telephone network (PSTN)-to-IP gateway,
but it supports two IP call legs, as opposed to a TDM leg and an IP call leg.

1.3 Cisco Unified Border Element License Types
Two types of Cisco Unified Border Element licenses are available. Either one can be used
depending on your need.
1.3.1 Pay-as-You-Grow License
This capacity-based license scheme is designed to allow a low entry point for customers with
limited IP trunking needs initially. More licenses can be added later in step with customer needs,
thus offering pay-as-you-grow benefits. It comes as bundle of 25 (FL-CUBE-25) or 100 (FL-CUBE-
100) sessions. FL-CUBE-25 will give you 25 simultaneous call sessions. This license is available
