Configuration Summary
Caution The Y-cables must be installed before configuring redundancy, and removed before deconfiguring
redundancy.

a. Attach all Y-cables in this order: to the primary line card, to the secondary line card, and to the
far end.
b. Configure the primary line card.
c. Configure the secondary line card.
2. To deconfigure redundancy:
a. Use “red line switch from...” to make the secondary line card standby (if it is active) and the
primary line card active if you want to deconfigure only the secondary line card (perhaps for
servicing).
b. Detach the Y-cable from all ports on the secondary line card.
c. Deconfigure the secondary line card.
3. If you want to deconfigure all redundancy, you must:
a. Remove all the Y-cables and the cable for nonredundancy if desired.
b. Deconfigure the secondary line card and primary line card.
See the Cisco 10000 Series Routers Line Card Configuration Guide for information about configuring
redundancy using the optional Y-cables.
