Preparing for Installation
This chapter describes the general equipment, safety, and site preparation requirements for installing line
cards on the Cisco 10000 series routers. This chapter contains the following sections:

Required Tools and Equipment
You need the following equipment to install line cards. If you need additional equipment, contact a
service representative for ordering information.
Half-height or full size line card
Carrier, if you are installing a half-height line card
3/16-inch flat-blade screwdriver
Number 2 Phillips screwdriver
Your own electrostatic discharge (ESD)-prevention equipment or a disposable grounding wrist strap
Antistatic mat
Antistatic container
A terminal console connected to the PRE to configure the line card after it is installed
Note If your Cisco 10005 line card uses BNC connectors and coaxial cable, see Appendix A, “Cisco
10005 Extender Card Information” for installation requirements for the required extender card.
