2.3.2 Sample Application using the DS-RPC
Synopsis: Customer needs In-Band console
access and power control of equipment at a
remote branch.
Features: The DS-RPC provides both functions
in one unit. The model selected for this
application provides four RS-232 consoles and
four power receptacles, which are accessed in
controlled through a Telnet connection.
Additionally, the network interface module has a
RS-232 port for onsite access or use with an
external modem for dial backup.
Menu Driven Interface: When the customer
Telnets to the DS-Series a numbered menu
appears with the device names connected to the
DS-Series. The names are programmable. Once
the customer is finished with a particular device
the menu is easily brought up and the customer
can either log off or select another device.
Username and Password: The host modules for
the DS-Series support multiple user names and
passwords. Additionally, usernames and
passwords can be assigned to individual ports.
This allows users to only see ports assigned to
their username.
