Replacement Procedures
Warning
Before working on equipment that is connected to power lines, remove jewelry
(including rings, necklaces, and watches). Metal objects will heat up when connected
to power and ground and can cause serious burns or weld the metal object to the
terminals.
To remove a PEM, complete the following steps:
Step 1 Power OFF the central office circuit breaker connected to the PEM you are removing and tape the switch
in the OFF position.
Step 2 Attach an ESD-preventive wrist strap between you and an unpainted chassis surface.
Step 3 Power OFF the power switch located on the PEM front panel. (See Figure 5-4.)
Caution Terminal blocks may be energized. Ensure that the power source circuit breaker is
disconnected and the PEM power switch is in the OFF (O) position before accessing
terminals.

Step 5 Unplug the alarm cable from the bell alarm terminal block. (See Figure 5-4.)
Step 6 Using a 1/4-in. flat-blade screwdriver, loosen the captive screws on the PEM front panel.
