dot1x timeout
To set the reauthentication timer, use the dot1x timeout command. To return to the default setting, use
the no form of this command.
dot1x timeout {reauth-period {se conds | server} | quiet-period seconds | tx-peri od second s |
supp-timeout seconds | server-timeout seconds}
no dot1x timeout {reauth-period | quiet-period | tx-period | sup p-timeout | server-timeout}
Syntax Description
Defaults T he default settings are as follows:
• Reau thentication perio d is 3600 seconds.
• Quie t peri od is 6 0 second s.
• Trans mission period is 30 seconds .
• Supplicant timeout is 30 seconds.
• Server timeout is 30 seconds.

Usage Guidelines T he periodic reauthentication must be enabled before entering the dot1x timeout re-au thp eri od
command. Enter the dot1x re-authentication command to enable periodic reauthentication.
Examples This example shows how to set 60 as the number of seconds that the switch waits for a response to an
EAP-request/identity frame from the client before retransmitting the request:

reauth-period server Numb er of s econds between r eauthentic ation at tempts; va lid values are
from 1 to 65535 as derived from the S ession-Timeout R ADIUS attribu te.

quiet-period seconds Number of seconds that the switch remains in the quiet state following
a failed authentication exchange with the client; valid values are from 0
to 65535 seconds.
tx-period seconds Number of seconds that the swit ch waits for a response to an
EAP-request/identity frame from the client before retransmitting the
request; valid values are from 1 to 65535 sec onds.
supp-timeout seconds Number of seconds that the switch waits for the retransmission of
EAP-Request packets; valid values are from 30 to 65535 seconds.
server-timeout seconds Number of seconds that the switch waits for the retransmission of
packets by the back-end authenticator to the authentication server; valid
values are from 30 to 65535 seconds.
