Understanding Interface Types on the Cisco SM-X Layer 2/3 ESMs
The Cisco SM-X Layer 2/3 ESM supports the following types of interfaces:
Ethernet internal interfaces on the host
Gigabit Ethernet interfaces on the module
VLAN switched virtual interface (SVI) on the module
Using Interface Configuration Mode
You can configure the individual Cisco SM-X Layer 2/3 ESM physical interfaces (ports) through interface
configuration mode on the CLI.
Type—GigabitEthernet (gigabitethernet or gi) for 10/100/1000-Mbps Ethernet ports.
Module number—The module slot number on the Cisco SM-X Layer 2/3 ESM or switch (always 0
on the service module or switch).
Port number—The interface number on the Cisco SM-X Layer 2/3 ESM or switch. The port numbers
always begin at 1, starting at the left side of the Cisco SM-X Layer 2/3 ESM, for example,
interface
GigabitEthernet 0/1.
You can identify physical interfaces by physically checking the interface location on the
Cisco SM-X Layer 2/3 ESM. You can also use the Cisco IOS show privileged EXEC commands to
display information about a specific interface or all the interfaces on the Cisco switching
service module.
Example
To specify Gigabit Ethernet port 4 on a standalone Cisco SM-X Layer 2/3 ESM, enter this command in
global configuration mode:
Switch(config)# interface GigabitEthernet 0/4
