Chapter 1 Overview

Features

The 6E3 line card provides the following features:

• Single-wide line card for the Cisco 7304 router

• Six independent E3 ports

• Serial encapsulation protocols:

High-Level Data Link Control (HDLC) data (default)

Point-to-point protocol (PPP)

Frame Relay

• E3 support:

Framing control (g751)

Clocking modes (local and line)

Local (diagnostic), DTE, network (line) and network (payload) loopback

• Integrated data service unit (DSU) functionality

• Channels are configurable to:

Provide payload scrambling for any two (Digital Link and Kentrox) supported third party DSU

vendor modes as well as the default Cisco mode

Allow fractional E3 transmission (subrate) for any of two (Digital Link and Kentrox) supported

third party DSU vendor modes as well as the default Cisco mode

• Support for 16- and 32-bit cyclic redundancy checks (CRCs)

• Support for DS3 MIB (RFC 1407)

• Supports receive and transmit alarm processing:
