3.4.1 UPSR Architecture
The TE-2020 system configured as a UPSR node is capable of transmitting and receiving high-speed data
in two directions. When configured as a UPSR node, the TE-2020 supports up to a single full-duplex OC-
192 signal. This signal is duplicated and then transmitted and received in both ring directions. Figure 3-20
shows the typical flow for a UPSR

UPSR Functions
The working and protect paths shown in Figure 3-20 represent the signal flow of the UPSR node. Working
transmits data in one direction (clockwise), and protect transmits data in the opposite direction (counter-
clockwise). The transmission and reception of the data during normal operations takes place as follows:
