The high-speed expansion slots are compatible with Catalyst 2820 field-replaceable modules and
provide high-bandwidth connections to backbones, servers, and other high-performance devices.
Each expansion slot is internally switched to all other Catalyst 2820 ports.
— 100BaseTX module: uses unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cable
— 100BaseFX module: uses single-mode, SC-type, optical fiber
— FDDI module: dual attachment station (DAS) and single attachment station (SAS), uses
multimode optical fiber cable (with MICs)
— CDDI module: SAS, uses Category 5 UTP cable
The maximum distance for multimode fiber-optic network connections is two kilometers. Each
ATM module complies with the following standards:
— LANE 1.0 for LANE client only
— Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) and Synchronous Transport Signal level 3
(STS-3c) physical layer.
— SONET Digital Heirarchy (SDH) STM-1
