Sicontroller Menus
The Sicontroller Menus are grouped by function. Each menu and function is described briefly below.
The file menu controls which workspace you are using. As you may
recall from earlier reading, the workspace keeps track of your
passwords, user accounts, positions of the various meters and forms,
etc. Site files are also keyed to the workspaces because your site files
contain encrypted hardware passwords that cold be used to gain
unauthorized access to your Sicon-8 if they were stolen. Without the
appropriate workspace file loaded, your site files will not run, unless a
new workspace file is created using the same site key. If you are
managing multiple sites, you can create, use and swap out as many
workspaces as you wish.
The site menu is one of the key
elements of the Sicontroller
software. This menu provides
basic access to all of the major
programming and configuration
options of the Sicon-8 hardware.
The menu items are grouped by
function and the basic functions
are:
1. Site connect
2. Add or remove sites
3. Operational Sub-functions
4. Hardware configuration
5. Import & Export data
6. Run the firmware updater
Many of the functions of this
menu have corresponding
toolbar buttons as well.
Clicking on CONNECT will attempt
to connect to your hardware.
DISCONNECT does just that.
Adding & deleting sites are really
about activating or de-activating
site in the software environment.
This section give you access to
various subforms that can be used
to interact with the Sicon-8
hardware. A full description of
each function is provided further
after this section.
The Configure section lets you
perform all of the setup functions of
your Sicon-8 hardware. You can
also save the configuration locally
and load alternate configurations.
Import and Export functions are
similar to load and save, but are
text based & contain no password
data. Export files can be used to
setup multiple Sicon-8s.
The Firmware button calls the
updater function that lets you load
Sicon Firmware files (*.sff) into
your hardware to enable new
features as they are released.
A Special Note About Setup Troubleshooting:
If you experience unexpected behavior when programming or operating your Sicon-8,
it is very helpful to export your current configuration to a file, using the “Export
Configuration” function. Export files contain all of the setup information for your Sicon-
8, but do not contain the passwords or other security information. Often, we will ask
you to e-mail us your exported site file so that we can test your setup on a working
Sicon-8 in our labs. Exported files have a .txt extension, not the .ste extension.
