Chapter 6 Dialout modem ports setup
Remote site devices
This screen is used to define/setup the modem device. There are a lot of similarities between
this screen and the UUCP devices file under Unix. It is possible to assign several ports the
same device name, and the dialer daemon will automatically use the first available port. It is
also possible to have these ports do ‘double-duty’ and serve as regular dial-in ports for dumb
terminal access, SLIP or PPP in addition to the dial-out capability.
The following fields are important:
Field Description
Type The name of the modem assigned to a specific port. It is
referenced from the Remote Access Systems Screen in the
Device type field.
Dst Address The address of the remote system IOLAN+ is calling into.
Config The modem’s configuration string. There are a few examples at
the end of this document.
Note: Leave this field blank for directly connected devices.
Restart timer Amount of time in seconds before IOLAN+ retransmits PPP
options.
Max Retries Number of option retries before dropping the line.
