USING TALKSWITCH 219
CALLS OVER VOIP WITH IP EXTENSIONS AND GATEWAYS
If teleworkers are connected to the system via a certified compatible IP device (i.e. gateway or
IP extension), there are several ways for them to interact with TalkSwitch.
Making calls
1. Ensure the VoIP number is programmed with an auto attendant.
2. Dial the VoIP number.
3. When the auto attendant answers, dial an extension, voice mailbox, VoIP number or hunt
group.
Transferring calls
1. If the call is routed via TalkSwitch, you can transfer the caller by dialing ** and any
extension or voice mailbox.
2. If the call came directly from a IP gateway or phone, you can transfer the call if your phone
or service provider supports this feature.
USING THE VOICEMAIL SYSTEM
The recording time for internal music on hold, voicemail, and the auto attendants is shared on
the TalkSwitch unit. You can expand the built-in memory using memory cards.
Note that the system allows up to 99 voicemail messages per mailbox. Once a mailbox fills up,
callers won’t be able to leave voicemail messages for that user. Therefore users should delete
voicemail messages before the mailbox fills up.
Activating voice mailboxes
You can activate voicemail with a mailbox, as an announcement, or you can deactivate it. There
are three types of voice mailboxes:
Local extension mailboxes are associated with local extensions. All local extensions are
activated with a respective mailbox by default.
Remote extension mailboxes are associated with the remote extensions. If you activate a
remote extension, the mailbox is activated by default.
General voice mailboxes are not associated with extensions.
Callers can reach voice mailboxes from a call cascade, be transferred from a local extension or
have announcements played through the auto attendant.
If you want incoming calls to go straight to a voice mailbox after a specified number of rings,
program an auto attendant to answer the line and then route the call to voicemail.
To leave a message from an analog extension:
1. Press * and the mailbox number.
To leave a message from an IP extension:
1. Press * and the mailbox number and press Dial, Send or #.
