ii. Choosing / Changing the COM Port Number for a Device
1) To choose or change the COM port, open the Windows Device Manager window and double-
click on the device to be changed in the
‘Ports’ list to bring up its ‘Properties ’ . See Figure 19.

2) Under the ‘Port Settings’ tab, click on ‘Advanced’ , choose the desired COM port number
from the pull down menu, and click
‘OK’ .
Note that the pull down menu will show the user what COM port numbers are currently
‘(in use)’ .
3) Once the ‘OK’ button is clicked, the COM port number will be changed to the chosen
value
