Thissensorcanbefunctionallytestedwithatestmagnet.Thetestmagnetelectronicallysimulatessmokeinthesensingchamber,testingthesensorelec-
tronicsandconnectionstothecontrolpanel.

2. Thesensorshouldalarmthepanel.
TwoLEDsonthesensorarecontrolledbythepaneltoindicatesensorstatus.Codedsignals,transmittedfromthepanel,cancausetheLEDstoblink,latch

TheGEMINImodel501aerosolgeneratorcanbeusedforsmokeentrytesting.Setthegeneratortorepresent4%/ftto5%/ftobscurationasdescribedin
theGEMINI501manual.Usingthebowlshapedapplicator,applyaerosoluntilthepanelalarms.

Directtheheattowardeitherofthesidethermistors.Holdtheheatsourceabout12inchesfromthedetectorinordertoavoiddamagetotheplastic.The
detectorwillresetonlyafterithashadsufficienttimetocool.
Bothsmokeandheatdetectiontestingarerecommendedforverifyingsystemprotectioncapability.
AsensorthatfailsanyofthesetestsshouldbecleanedasdescribedunderCLEANING,andretested.Ifthesensorfailsaftercleaning,itmustbereplacedand
returnedforrepair.
Whentestingiscomplete,restorethesystemtonormaloperationandnotifytheproperauthoritiesthatthesystemisbackinoperation.
HIGHSENSITIVITYSETTING
Theuseofthe0.2%to0.5%perfootsensitivitysettingrequiresa90-daytestperiodtoensurethatthedetector’senvironmentissuitableforthissetting.The
followingstepsmustbefollowedtomeetNotifierandULrequirementsforthishighsensitivityapplication:
1. Eachdetectorintendedfor0.2%to0.5%perfootalarmapplicationshallhaveitsinitialalarmsettingsetfor0.5%obscurationperfootalarmlevel.Theinitial
prealarmsettingforthedetectorshallbesettotheintendedalarmsettingofthesystem.Prealarmshallbesetfornonlatchingoperation.
2. Detectorssetat0.2%to0.5%perfootareintendedforuseinsmoke-free,environmentallycontrolledapplications,suchascomputerroomsandcleanrooms.
Inordertodetermineifanenvironmentissuitableforinstallation,thedetectorsshallbeoperatedcontinuouslyfor90dayswithallenvironmentalfactors,
includingtemperature,humidity,airflow,occupancy,etc.,similartotheintendedapplicationforthesedetectors.Anelectronichistoryfileorprintershallbe
usedtorecordalleventsassociatedwiththedetectorsundertesting.
3. Attheendof90days,theresultsofthetestshallbeinspectedbyanauthorizedNotifierrepresentativeortheenduser,iftrainedbyanauthorizedNotifier
representative.Ifnoalarmsorprealarmsarerecordedforthedetectorsundertesting,thesystemmaybesettothetestedprealarmlevelinthe0.2%to
0.5%perfootrange.
CLEANING
Itisrecommendedthatthedetectorberemovedfromitsmountingbasetofacilitatecleaning.Thedetectoriscleanedasfollows:
NOTE: Beforeremovingthedetector,notifytheproperauthoritiesthatthesmokedetectorsystemisundergoingmaintenanceandwillbetemporarilyoutof
service.Disablethezoneorsystemundergoingmaintenancetopreventunwantedalarms.
1. Removethedetectorcoverbypryingawaythefoursidetabswithasmall-bladedscrewdriver,andthen
pullingthecoverfromthebase.
2. Vacuumthescreencarefullywithoutremovingit.IffurthercleaningisrequiredcontinuewithStep3,
otherwiseskiptoStep8.
3. Removethescreenassemblybypullingitstraightout(seeFigure4).
4. Removethesensingchambercoverbypullingitstraightout.
5. Cleanthevanedchamberpiecebyvacuumingorblowingoutdustandparticles.
6. Replacethesensingchambercover,aligningthearrowonthetopwitharrowontheprintedcircuitboard.
7. Toreplacethescreen,placeitoverthechamberassembly,turningituntilitsnapsintoplace.
8. ReplacethecoverusingtheLEDstoalignthecoverandthengentlypushingituntilitlocksintoplace.
9. Reinstallthedetector.
10. TestthedetectorasdescribedinTESTING.
11. Reconnectdisabledcircuits.
12. Notifytheproperauthoritiesthatthesystemisbackonline.
