GLOSSARY
Model Names
1. Preparation or prep cabinets: chiller cabinets
designed for food preparation. These cabinets have a
ducted well in the top rear of the flat benchtop that
pans of prepared ingredients sit in. An air curtain blows
air over the pans to ensure even temperatures and
that food safety standards can be met.
2. Lowline chiller cabinets: low lying cabinets designed
to hold hot cooking equipment on the top.
3. Pizza cabinets: chiller cabinets designed for food
preparation. These cabinets have a ducted well in an
angled raised section at the top rear of their benchtop
that pans of prepared ingredients sit in. They also
have a flat work area at the top front of the cabinet.
An air curtain blows air over the pans to ensure even
temperatures and that food safety standards can be met.
4. Under counter cabinets: cabinets designed to fit
under counters or benchtops.
5. Backbar cabinets: chiller cabinets designed for bottle
storage behind and/or under bars.
6. Top mounted cabinets: the refrigeration unit is
mounted at the top of the cabinet.
7. Bottom mounted cabinets: the refrigeration unit is
mounted at the bottom of the cabinet.
Option Definitions
1. Integral: a cabinet with a self contained refrigeration
system.
2. Remote: a cabinet with a separately located
refrigeration condensing unit that is not supplied by
SKOPE.
3. Benchtop fascia height: the height of the front of the
benchtop. This height is sometimes different to the
overall height added to a cabinet by the benchtop.
4. Benchtop height: the height of the benchtop that is
added to a cabinet.
5. S/S: Stainless Steel.
6. Solid door: a metal, foam filled solid door that cannot
be seen through.
7. Sign replacement panel: a flat metal panel to replace
a light sign on top of some vertical cabinets.
8. Treated coil: a protective coating on the coil to
prevent corrosion, which is caused by uncovered foods,
especially fish, eggs, mayonnaise and dressings.
9. Tropical specification: the cabinet is designed to
operate in very high humidity (up to 85% relative
humidity).
10. Gastronorm 1/1 trays: Gastronorm standard sized
catering trays 530mm long x 325mm wide.
11. Gastronorm 2/1 trays: Gastronorm standard sized
catering trays 650mm long x 530mm wide.
Glass Terminology
1. Insulating glass: this is double glazing. Two or more
panes of glass are joined with a sealed air gap
between them.
2. Heated safety glass: glass which has an electrically
heated film attached to remove condensation in the
harshest environments.
3. Argon gas: a colourless and odourless gas used to
fill the airspace between panes of insulating glass.
The addition of argon gas increases the thermal
performance of a window by minimising heat transfer.
4. Low/e: stands for “low emissivity”. Low/e glass is
safety glass coated with a clear metal oxide
film to reduce heat transfer.
5. Double low/e glass: two panes of glass coated with a
clear metal oxide film to reduce heat transfer.
Glass Option Definitions
1. Safety glass: standard glass used on SKOPE chillers.
Air filled, double-glazed toughened safety glass.
2. Low/e: one pane of safety glass and one pane of low/e
glass. Low/e provides more insulation than standard
safety glass.
3. Double low/e argon: two panes of low/e glass, argon
gas filled. Double low/e argon glass provides more
insulation than low/e glass.
4. Double glazed heated safety glass: two layers of
safety glass with a heated film used on
chiller cabinets.
5. Triple glazed heated safety glass: three layers
of safety glass with a heated film used on
freezer cabinets.
Temperature Definitions
1. Product operating temperature: the temperature of
the product stored within the cabinet.
2. Operating ambient temperature: the maximum
temperature of the environment that the cabinet can
operate in and maintain the product temperature.
3. Relative Humidity or RH: is the ratio of the amount
of water vapor in the air at a specific temperature to
the maximum amount of water that the air could hold
at that temperature, expressed as a percentage.
