immediatelysinceleakage,causticburnsandperforationcanoccuras
soonastwohoursafteringestion.Irritationtotheinternal/external
mouthareasmayoccurfollowingexposuretoaleakingbattery.
Publishedreportsrecommendremovalfromtheesophagusshould
be
doneendoscopically(underdirectvisualization).Batteriesbeyondthe
esophagusneednotberetrievedunlesstherearesignsofinjurytotheGI
tractoralargediameterbatteryfailstopassthepylorus.If
asymptomatic,follow‐upx‐raysarenecessaryonlytoconfirmthe
passageoflargerbatteries.
Confirmationbystoolinspectionis
preferableundermostcircumstances.Forinformationontreatment,call
theNATIONALBATTERYINGESTIONHOTLINE(telephonenumberbelow).
IfSwallowed DONOTGIVEIPECAC.Donotinducevomiting.Seekmedicalattention
immediately.Ifmouthareairritationorburninghasoccurred,rinse
mouthandsurroundingareawithtepidwaterforatleast15minutes.

least15minutes.Seekmedicalattentionifirritationpersists.
