NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that uids are contained
during performance of inspection, maintenance, test-
ing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to
collect the uid with suitable containers before open-
ing any compartment or disassembling any compo-
nent containing uids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, “Caterpillar
Tools and Shop Products Guide” for tools and supplies
suitable to collect and contain uids on Caterpillar
products.
Dispose of all uids according to local regulations and
mandates.
Procedure for the Tractor

The secondary f
uel lter for the tractor is mounted on
the front of the hydraulic tank. The secondary fuel
lter is on the right side of the engine compartment
above the prim
ary fuel lter.
1. Park the machine on a level surface.
2. Lower the bowl.
3. Shut off the
engine.
4. Move fuel shutoff valve (3) to the CLOSED
position.
5. Clean secondary fuel lter (2). Clean lter
mounting b
ase (1), which is located above the
lter.
6. Turn the l
ter to the left in order to loosen the lter.
Loosen the lter with a strap type wrench.
7. Remove th
e lter. Clean the bottom of the lter
mounting base. Make sure that all of the old lter
seal is removed.
8. Apply clean diesel fuel to the seal of the new
secondary lter.
9. Install the new fuel lter hand tight until the seal
of the fuel lter contacts the lter mounting base.
Note the
position of the index marks on the lter in
relation to a xed point on the lter mounting base.
Note: T
here are rotation index marks on the lter
that are spaced 90 degrees or 1/4 of a turn away
from each other. When you tighten the lter, use the
rotat
ion index marks as a guide.
10. Tighten the lter according to the instructions that
are pr
intedonthelter. Use the index marks as a
guide for tightening the lter.
Note
: You may need to use a Caterpillar strap
wrench, or another suitable tool, in order to turn
the lter to the amount that is required for
nal
inst
allation. Make sure that the installation tool does
not damage the lter.
11. Ret
urn the fuel shutoff valve to the OPEN position.
12. Purge the air from the fuel system. See the
Ope
ration and Maintenance Manual, “Fuel System
- Prime” for further instructions.

te: The fuel system water separator also needs
to be changed at this time. See Operation and
Maintenance Manual, “Fuel System Primary Filter
(W
ater Separator) Element - Replace”.
13. Start the engine and check for leaks.
