12. Clean the area a
round oil ller cap (5). Remove
the oil ller cap . Fill the crankcase with new oil.

13. Clean the oil ller cap and install the oil ller cap.
14. Start the e
ngine and allow the oil to warm. Check
the engine for leaks. Check the lter for leaks.
15. Run the eng
ine and check oil gauge (4) after the
engine has been running for ten minutes. Maintain
the oil between the marks on the “LOW IDLE side
of the oil
gauge. If necessary, add oil.
16. Close the engine access door and stop the
engine.

NOTICE
Care
must be taken to ensure that uids are contained
during performance of inspection, maintenance, test-
ing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to
coll
ect the uid with suitable containers before open-
ing any compartment or disassembling any compo-
nent containing uids.
Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, “Caterpillar
Dealer Service Tool Catalog” for tools and supplies
sui
table to collect and contain uids on Caterpillar
products.
Di
spose of all uids according to local regulations and
mandates.
Hot oil and hot c omponents can cause personal
injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to
contact skin.
Note: API CH-4,
API CI-4, and API CI-4 P LUS oils
are acceptable in the C9 Acert Diesel Engine if
the requirements of Caterpillar's ECF-1 (Engine
Crankcase Flu
id specication - 1) are met. The oil
change interval should not exceed 250 hours.
