1. Park
the machine on level ground. Stop the
engine. Check the coolant level in the sight glass.
2. If th
e coolant level is at the bottom of the sight
glass, add more coolant. The filler tube has an
angled cut inside of the coolant tank that can also
be u
sed to check the coolant level. Add coolant
when the coolant level reaches the bottom of the
angled cut on the filler tube.
Note: If additional coolant is needed, remove the
pressure cap slowly in order to relieve the pressure.
3. The radiator is full when the sight glass is
completely covered. The radiator is full when the
co
olant level reaches the top of the angled cut on
the filler tube.

SMCS Code: 1350-008
Note: It is not necessary to obtain a Coolant
Sample (Level 1) if the cooling system is filled
with Cat ELC
(Extended Life Coolant). Cooling
systems that are filled with Cat ELC should have
a Coolant Sample (Level 2) that is obtained at
the recomme
nded interval that is stated in the
Maintenance Interval Schedule.
Note: Obta
in a Coolant Sample (Level 1 ) if the
cooling system is filled with any other coolant
instead of Cat ELC. This includes the following
types of co
olants.
•
Commercial long life coolants that meet the
Caterpil
lar Engine Coolant Specification -1
(Caterpillar EC-1)
•
Cat Dies
el Engine Antifreeze/Coolant (DEAC)
•
Commercial heavy-duty coolant/antifreeze
