Auger Seal - Inspect/Replace

Case drain filter (2) for the piston pump is located on
the right side of the transmission case.
Filter (3) for the motor case drain is located above
the steering arms of the machine.
1. Park the machine on level ground. Engage the
parking brake.
2. Stop the engine. Lower the bowl.
3. Clean the area around the filters.
4. Remove the oil filters with a strap type wrench.
Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, “Oil
Filter - Inspect” for further information.
5. Clean the bottom of the filter mounting bases.
Make sure that all of the old filter seals are
removed.
6. Apply a thin coat of clean hydraulic oil to the seal
of the new filters.
7. Install the new filters hand tight until the seal of the
filters contacts the filter mounting bases. Note the
position of the index marks on the filters in relation
to a fixed point on the filter mounting bases.
Note: There are rotation index marks on each filter
that are spaced 90 degrees or 1/4 of a turn away
from each other. When you tighten the filters, use the
rotation index marks as a guide.
8. Tighten the filt
ers according to the instructions that
are printed on the filters. Use the index marks as a
guide for tightening the filters. For non-Caterpillar
filters, refer
to the installation instructions that are
provided by the supplier of the filters.
Note: You may
need to use a Caterpillar strap
wrench, or another suitable tool, in order to turn
the filters to the amount that is required for final
installati
on. Make sure that the installation tool does
not damage the filters.
9. Start the en
gine. Check for leaks at the fi lters.
10. Check the hydraulic oil level. If necessary, add oil
to the hydr
aulic oil reservoir.

1. Park the machine on level ground. Run the engine
at low idle.
2. Move the transmission control to the NEUTRAL
position. Engage the parking brake.
3. Lower the bowl to the ground. Open the apron.
Lock the apron in the RAISED position. Refer to
Operation and Maintenance Manual, “Blocking the
Bowl and Apron” for further information.
4. Stop the engine.

Seal (1) is located on the lower end of the au ger.
5. Clean the bottom of the auger. Inspect the area
for oil leakage.
6. If oil leakage is present, replace the seal.
