Auger Seal - Inspect/Replace

Case drain lter (2) for the piston pump is located on
the right side of the transmission case.
Filter (3) for the motor case drain is located above
the steering arms of the machine.
1. Park the machine on level ground. Engage the
parking brake.
2. Stop the engine. Lower the bowl.
3. Clean the area around the lters.
4. Remove the oil lters with a strap type wrench.
Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, Oil
Filter - Inspect” for further information.
5. Clean the bottom of the lter mounting bases.
Make sure that all of the old lter seals are
removed.
6. Apply a thin coat of clean hydraulic oil to the seal
of the new lters.
7. Install the new lters hand tight until the seal of the
lters contacts the lter mounting bases. Note the
position of the index marks on the lters in relation
to a xed point on the lter mounting bases.
Note: There are rotation index marks on each lter
that are spaced 90 degrees or 1/4 of a turn away
from each other. When you tighten the lters, use the
rotation index marks as a guide.
8. Tighten the lt
ers according to the instructions that
are printed on the lters. Use the index marks as a
guide for tightening the lters. For non-Caterpillar
lters, refer
to the installation instructions that are
provided by the supplier of the lters.
Note: You may
need to use a Caterpillar strap
wrench, or another suitable tool, in order to turn
the lters to the amount that is required for nal
installati
on. Make sure that the installation tool does
not damage the lters.
9. Start the en
gine. Check for leaks at the lters.
10. Check the hydraulic oil level. If necessary, add oil
to the hydr
aulic oil reservoir.

1. Park the machine on level ground. Run the engine
at low idle.
2. Move the transmission control to the NEUTRAL
position. Engage the parking brake.
3. Lower the bowl to the ground. Open the apron.
Lock the apron in the RAISED position. Refer to
Operation and Maintenance Manual, “Blocking the
Bowl and Apron for further information.
4. Stop the engine.

Seal (1) is located on the lower end of the au ger.
5. Clean the bottom of the auger. Inspect the area
for oil leakage.
6. If oil leakage is present, replace the seal.
