Examination Modes
The Examination Modes put some limits on calculator functions, which allows it to be used
when taking an exam or test. Use the Examination Modes only when actually taking an exam
or test.
Examination Mode availability depends on your calculator model as explained below.
fx-CG50 Two Examination modes: Examination Mode 1 and Examination Mode 2.
Use of Examination Mode 2 in International Baccalaureate
®
(IB) exams is
prohibited.
fx-CG20 One Examination Mode only, which corresponds to Examination Mode 1.
The displayed mode name is “Examination Mode.”
The expression “Examination Modes” in this User’s Guide refers to the Examination Mode of
the fx-CG20, and Examination Mode 1 and Examination Mode 2 of the fx-CG50.
Entering an Examination Mode affects calculator operation as described below.
The following modes and functions are disabled in the Examination Modes: eActivity
mode, Memory mode, E-CON4 mode, Python mode (fx-CG50/fx-CG50 AU), Program
mode, vector commands,*

program commands (^ (output command), : (multi-statement
command), _ (carriage return)), data transfer, add-in applications,*

add-in languages,
storage memory access, user name editing, OS Update, Catalog QR Code function.

Disabled in Examination Mode 1 only. Enabled in Examination Mode 2.

The 3D Graph add-in application can be used in Examination Mode 2.
User data (main memory) is backed up. The backed up data will be restored when you exit
an Examination Mode. Any data created during an Examination Mode session will be deleted
when an Examination Mode is exited.
Important!
Replacing batteries with a set of fresh ones is recommended before using an Examination
Mode.
In the Examination Mode, the brightness level will change to 1 automatically if you do not
perform any operation on the calculator for about 30 seconds. Note that in the Examination
Mode 1 (not 0) is the darkest level, so battery power runs down faster in the Examination
Modes. Exit Examination Modes as soon as possible after you get through using them.

Only the settings below are saved before entering the Examination Mode.
