What is GPS?
GPS (Global Positioning System) is a global navigation satellite system that calculates position from a network
orbiting satellites and essentially allows you to track down your exact location on Earth. This network of GPS
satellites consists of 24 total satellites in six orbits, with four satellites in each orbit. These 24 satellites are
about 20 kilometers (about 12.4 miles) above us and using at least three of them a GPS receiver can receive
radio signals and triangulate your exact position via a series of calculations. This is called “tracking” and a
GPS receiver logs your location by latitude and longitude numbers. The ATP Photo Finder utilizes an internal
GPS receiver and stores your location data for use in photos taken with your digital camera.
