The modes of operation are stored in an E
2
PROM and the saving action
can take up to one minute to complete. The E
2
PROM does not require
battery back up and the information will be retained during power off
conditions even if the battery is disconnected. When the multiplexer is
being remotely controlled via an NCS and the install options are saved,
the operator must wait for the 'completed OK' message to be displayed
and then enter Ctrl + X to exit Remote control. If remote access is still
required the multiplexer must be re-accessed.
Equipment Identity Code
The option to set a discreet identity code for each multiplexer is provided,
except for N any letter from A to Z plus any number from 1 to 63 may be
selected, e.g. P10. It is important that Z is not be used if the node is in a
network under the control of the NCS version 3.1 or above as Z is used for
zone identity. This will be the number displayed at root menu level (non
secure mode) and also to identify faults. When under the control of the
NCS, this ID code will be used by NCS to address that node, and therefore
must not be duplicated on any other equipment in the network. If the
equipment number is changed and the default password is in use, the
password must be reset.
Control Port Selection
This option is used when the multiplexer is used in Local/Remote mode.
The local multiplexer should be set to local and the remote multiplexer
should be set to either 'a' or 'b' depending upon the selected management
patchfield. When the unit is network managed it should be set to local.
Secure Mode Selection
The operator may use the multiplexer in secure mode, this enables the
menu system to be 'closed' and a password will then be required at the
local control port to gain access to the menu structure. The network ports
'a' and 'b' are not password protected.
Screen Display Modes
The start up (switch on) screen display may be set to echo/noecho or
brief/verbose.
Fault Logging
The start up state of the fault reporting may be selected to Off, Logging or
ASR. These reporting modes are described in Chapter 6.
