X723-300151 4-5 Issue 2
Branch B polling and responses work in a similar way using PCM line 2,
management bus line M3 and UART B.
EXAMPLE 3 - RECEIVE POLLING AND TRANSMIT ON
This configuration would use system controller patchfield 2 and dual LIU
patchfield 4.
In this example the multiplexer is a 'slave' on the network with the LIU
working in a 'ring' network. In this application the polls and responses
received on one PCM line need to pass through to the other and vice versa.
The patchfield on the LIU routes bit 4 of the TS0 non-frame word received
on line 1 to the M1 bus line and also to bit 4 of the TS0 non-frame word to
be transmitted on line 2.
In this way the poll can pass through the Dual LIU on to the next node in
the network. The management data routed to M1 is then routed to UART
A by the patchfield on the system controller to enable management control
of the multiplexer.
The response from the system controller is routed back on to the M1 bus
line. On the Dual LIU this response is combined, via the ‘AND’ function in
the patchfield, with a response received on bit 5 of the TS0 non-frame
word received on PCM line 2. The combined response is output on bit 5 of
the TS0 non-frame word transmitted on line 1. This response then passes
back through the network to branch A of the NCS. Branch B polls and
responses work in a similar way except that polls are received on line 2
and pass through in the other direction. Bus line M3 is used for
communication between the Dual LIU and system controller.
EXAMPLE 4 - REMOTE CONTROL VIA TS0
The multiplexer may be operated in a local/remote mode where
equipments at both ends of a point to point PCM link are controlled from
one end only without any network management. Figure 4-3 shows two
multiplexers connected together using Line 1.
For this configuration the system controller would use patchfield 3. The
Dual LIU would use patchfield 2 if the transmitted management data is
on bit 4 and received data is on bit 5 of the TS0 data. If the transmitted
data is on bit 5 and received data is on bit 4 the Dual LIU will use
patchfield 3.
At the local end, information will pass from the local port via UART A and
the M2 line, to Line 1 on the relevant Dual LIU. Data from the remote
