4.4 Examples of Management Patchfields
Some examples of possible network management patchfield selections are
described and relate to Figure 4-2 and patchfields 990C and 995D.
EXAMPLE 1 - SOURCE POLLING
This configuration would use system controller patchfield 2 and dual LIU
patchfield 2.
This configuration would be used where the multiplexer is used as the
'master' on a network. The ‘master’ is the node to which NCS is physically
connected to in order to gain access to the Network. Branch A of the NCS
would be connected to COM1 on the network port and branch B would be
connected to COM3. The poll from branch A will be routed to the M1 bus
line, via the patchfield on the system controller. The patchfield on the
LIU would then route this to bit 4 on the TS0 non frame word of the PCM
output on line 1.
The LIU will receive the polling response on bit 5 of the TS0 non-frame
word received on line 1. which will then be routed back to the system
controller via the M1 bus line and back to the NCS via COM1.
Branch B polling and responses work in a similar way using COM3, M3
and line 2 on the LIU. The system controller will transmit and receive
management data via UART A and UART B
EXAMPLE 2 - RECEIVE POLLING AND TERMINATE
This configuration would use system controller patchfield 2 and dual LIU
patchfield 3.
In this example the multiplexer is a 'slave' on the network and receives
polls via the PCM lines. No polling is passed on, it is terminated at the
nodes management UART. This should be used to prevent Noise entering
the network from an unterminated network connection. The branch A
polls will be received on bit 4 of the TS0 non frame word on the received
PCM line 1. These will be routed via the patchfield to the M1 bus line.
The patchfield on the system controller will route this to UART A for
access by the system controller processor. The response from the system
controller is routed from UART A by the patchfield to the M1 bus line. On
the Dual LIU the data received on the M1 bus line is routed via the
patchfield to bit B5 of the TS0 non-frame word on the PCM transmitted
from line 1.
