2.2 Installation
This equipment must only be installed by suitably qualified service
personnel. Please ensure you read the statutory notices in the preface
of this manual before proceeding.
2.2.1 Unpacking
Check for any physical damage on receipt of the equipment and advise
Cray Communications by contacting our Customer Service Department
and the carrier immediately if any damage is found. Retain the packing
material in case future transportation is required.
2.2.2 Mounting
The unit should be mounted in a standard 19" rack or in a suitable
compatible equipment housing. Side supports should be fitted to each side
of the rack to aid mounting and to prevent undue strain on the front end
angle brackets. Sufficient clearance should be allowed to give adequate
ventilation. A means of preventing flaming material reaching the floor in
the event of fire should be provided underneath the 3200 chassis.
When using a power shelf configured for redundant PSU operation, it is
recommended that a 1RU space is maintained between the 3200 and the
power shelf, this is to aid cooling by improving air circulation within the
rack.
Note: Consideration should be given to forced air cooling of the power
supply. Refer to the 3000 Power Supply Equipment in Chapter 8 for
details.
All connections are made via the rear of the unit. Sufficient clearance is
required for the fitting of connectors and cable routing.
CAUTION:
As the weight of a fully equipped chassis can be up to 20kg, it is advisable
to remove all channel cards before inserting or removing the chassis from
a rack. Incorrect handling of a fully equipped chassis could result in
undue strain on the chassis tie bars. Observe electrostatic handling
procedures.
