2 Installation and
Commissioning
2.1 General
Installation and commissioning of the equipment consists of carrying out
all necessary work prior to configuration for network transmission
requirements. Follow Section 2.2 for physical connections noting
particularly the cabling requirements for the PSU alarms (2.2.4).
Follow Section 2.3 for Link and Switch settings noting in particular the
battery link (2.3.1). Check the Dual LIU and I/O adaptor link settings
(Section 3.1.5). Do not switch on until all cabling is in place, in particular
the earthing, and all links are correctly set.
Control Terminal Operation
A control terminal will be required for initially setting up the multiplexer.
The 3200 is controlled by the local control port, an RS-232 serial interface
on the front of the system controller, the range of baud rates and parity for
which are detailed in Table 2-5. The interface caters for XON/XOFF
protocol.
Remote operation of the 3200 is also possible and this is covered under
Remote Control in Section 5.5.
On power up, if configured for local control, the 3200 will output Self Test
information messages then a prompt and wait for the user input line.
User input is not case conscious.
User input lines are terminated by carriage return (CR) and no actions
will be taken until CR or other special characters have been entered.
Lines may be aborted before CR is entered by entering ESC or !. All lines
will be acknowledged by the 3200 by returning at least a prompt character
which will indicate the result of the previous input and that the 3200 is
ready to accept another line.
All 3200 commands are based on a menu selection scheme. The menu
structure is in the form of a tree with a single 'root' menu which branches
