Note: Incoming and Local PCM loops reset each other, each cannot
therefore be set at the same time. Both incoming and local loops require
an additional parameter that specifies the period for which the loop is to
be applied. This may be from 1 to 120 seconds, indefinite if 'I' is entered or
10 seconds if no parameter is entered. The positions of all loops are shown
in Figure 6-1.
Local Loops
This commands the Dual LIU to apply a local PCM loop back to the
required stream at the G.703 interface. The outgoing line signal for the
selected stream will contain AIS. Note that while the loop is applied any
management data paths carried over the stream will be lost, therefore
care must be taken when applying loops with NCS. Line faults will not be
monitored while this loop is active. A local loop on the active path of a
Dual LIU with A/B switching enabled will not cause a change over to the
other path.

In the above example a loop has been applied for 60 seconds.
Incoming Loop
This commands the Dual LIU to apply an incoming PCM loop back to the
required stream at the G.703 interface. While the loop is applied any
management data paths carried over the stream will be lost, therefore
care must be take when applying loops with NCS. Note that when an
incoming loop has been set and the input line fails, the 'line O/P' fault will
be active.
