Installation Instructions
Apply masking
tape to sides of
rail and edges of
treads to mark
centers of old
balusters.
Step: 1
Drill with phillips
bit, level, adhe-
sive, thread lock,
masking tape,
screws and allen
wrenches (which
are provided) and
of course Ole Iron
Slides™.
Tools Needed
Use a level to mark centers at top and bottom of balusters.
Step: 2
Mark the center
of the old
balusters on the
masking tape.
Step: 3
Cut out old
balusters. Do 4 or
5 balusters at a
time so current
handrail remains
supported.
Helpful Hint:
You can use long
handled pruning
shears to cut
balusters out in most
cases, cutting down
on dust and time.
Step: 4
Apply Liquid Nails®
or a polyurethane
adhesive on
bottom of base.
Step: 5
Run screw
(provided) through
base into tread.
Step: 6
After your bases
are in place, put
bottom end of Old
Iron Slides™ into
base with the
swivel head going
on underside of
handrail.
Step: 7
Apply same
adhesive used on
base to the swivel
head on top then
telescope
baluster towards
top of underside
of handrail.
Step: 8
Screw top of Ole
Iron Slides™ swivel
base in using 2
screws (provided).
Note: Going up
stairs, one of the
holes, usually the
lower one, may be
hard to get at. You
can put the top
screw in and let
the adhesive
bond and then
come back and totally remove the set screw at top and
move the bar out of the way to get at the other screw. Then
put Ole Iron Slides™ back together and tighten set screw.
Step: 9
Go through and
tighten the 3 set
screws (allen
wrench provided),
one on top base,
one on knuckle
towards the
bottom and one
on the base shoe.
It is suggest to use
a thread locking
liquid on set
screws.
Note: Don’t put
thread lock on
swivel top until
both screws are in.
