Step 4 (ring on gas)
Check gas pilot operation
TheModel702G/Ousesagaspilotforignitionofthegas
mainame.Thegaspilotisignitedbytheburnerelectrodes.
1. After completing Steps1, 2and3 on page21, move theburnerfuel
selectorswitchtoGAS.Setthelow-reswitchtolowre.
2. Makesurethegaslinehasbeencompletelybled.Thenturntheservice
switchtoON.
3. Thepilotwillusuallylightthersttimeoncethecombustionheadas-
semblyandthelow-reairdamperhavebeensetbySteps1and2,and
thepilotgastrainhasbeencompletelypurgedofair.
4. Thepilotameisapproximately280MBH,andislargeenoughtobe
heardwhenlit.Ifthepilotfailstolight,besurethegaslinehasbeenbled
properly.Ifitstillfailstolight,increasethepilotgaspressureto4inches
w.c.Iftheprimarycontrolisequippedwithapilottestholdswitch,itcan
beusedtoholdthepilot“on”whileadjustingpilotgaspressure.
5. Followtheinstructionsintheprimarycontrolinstructionmanualtocheck
amesignal.Makesuretheamesignalissteady,andgreaterthanthe
requiredminimumfortheUVsensor.
Step 5 (ring on gas)
Set main gas pressure regulator
Thebutterygasvalveisfactorysettoapreliminarysetting
of50%openforlowre,and100%openforhighre.The
pilotregulatorissetfor3.5inchesw.c.
1. Leavethelow-reswitchinlowre.
2. Withthegaspilotoperatingcorrectly,andtheUVsensoramesignal
aboveminimumrequired,the primary control will cycle theburnerto
maingas.
3. Checktheamesignalafterthepilothasshutdowntoensurethesignal

4. MovetheburnerfuelselectorswitchtoOFF.Theburnerwillshutdown.
5. TemporarilyinstalltwoU-tubemanometerconnectionstocheckgaspres-
sures.Installconnectionsattheinletpressuretapofthemainmanual
gasvalveandatthedownstreampressuretapofthemanualgasvalve
nexttothebutteryvalve.(Seeitems41,page5.)
6. The gas pressureatthe inlet to the gastrainmust never exceed
14inchesw.c.,eitherwhentheburnerisofforringongas.
7. MovetheburnerfuelselectorswitchtoGAS.Theburnershouldstart.
8. Withtheburnerringinlowre,checkthegaspressureatthedownstream
manualgasvalvetapping.Adjustthemaingaspressureregulatorifneces-
saryuntilthegaspressurereads3.4inchesw.c.asastartingpressure.
9. Switchthelow-reswitchtohighre.CAUTION:Bepreparedtoturnthe
burneroffimmediatelyifitbeginstopulsateasitattemptstomoveto
highre.
10.Iftheamepulsates,itisprobablytoorich.Switchthelow-reswitchto
lowreandreducethegaspressurebyadjustingthemaingaspressure
regulator.Thenreturnto9,above.
11.Ifthereistoolean,itwillappearsmallandcanevenblowoutduringthe
swingtohighre.Ifitblowsout,shutofftheburnerimmediately.Switch
thelow-reswitchtolowreandstarttheburneragain.Adjustthemain
gaspressureregulatortoincreasethegaspressure.Returnto9,above.
Withtheburnerrunninginhigh re,inspectthebutteyvalve
shaftslot(Figure18).Theslotmustbehorizontal.IFNOT,turn
theburneroff.Loosenthetwohex-headscrewssecuringthe
valvelinkagearm.Withthedampermotorlinkagearmpulled
up,useascrewdrivertorotatethebutteryvalveslotuntilitis
horizontal.Tightenthetwohexheadscrewswhilestillholding
thedampermotorlinkagearmup.Returntostep9,above.DO
NOTproceedwithcombustionadjustmentunlessthebuttery
valvepositionhasbeenveried,andcorrectedifnecessary.
12.Withtheburnerrunninginhigh re,adjustthemaingaspressureregula-
tortoachieve:
• Naturalgas:9.6%to10.0%CO
2
.
• Propane:10.7%to11.2%CO
2
.
• MeasuretheCOcontent.Itshouldbenogreaterthan100PPM.
HighCOreadingsmayindicatethecombustionisonthe
wrongsideoftheCO2curve.Youwillknowthisifadecrease
ingaspressurecausesanincreaseinCO2.
13.Thegaspressuremayhavetobesetaslowasabout2.0inchesw.c.toas
highasabout4.0inchesw.c.,dependingontheringrateoftheburner.
