Step 3 (ring on oil)
Damper motor end switch position
1. Modulatetheburnerfromlowretohighreandbacktolowre,pausing
ateachstepforaboutoneminute.
2. Iftheswingfromlowretohighreisrough(burnerbangsorrumbles),
orthereisverysmoky,thedamperendswitchmaybeinthewrong
position.High-reoilshouldpullinastheairdamper,NOTTHEDAMPER
ARM,isabouthalfwaythroughitsswing.
3. Fordifferentapplianceapplications,itissometimesnecessarytohave
high-reoilpressurepullinearlierorlaterthannormalduringtheswing
toachieveasmoother,cleanertransition.
4. Iftheswingisrough(amegoesout,bangsorrumbles),therecould
beairintheoil,orthenozzlemaybedefective.Check,andreplacethe
nozzleifnecessary.Thenretry.
5. Ifthereistoolean,theamecouldliftoffofthehead,causingrumbleor
unsteadycombustion.Inthiscase,adjustthedampermotorendswitch
toenergizeearlier.

Iftheameisverysmoky,thencleansupagain,thedampermotorend
switchshouldbesettoenergizelater.Toadjustthedampermotorend
switch:
• Removethedampermotorcover.
• Thiswillexposeawhiteplasticgearwithnotches.
• WiththeburnerOFF,usetheendofasmall-bladedscrewdriverinserted
intooneofthenotchesofthewhitegeartorotatethegearasneeded.
• TurnthegearonenotchCLOCKWISEforaLATERPULL-IN.
• Turnthegear one notchCOUNTERCLOCKWISE foran EARLIER
PULL-IN.
7. Restarttheburnerandcheckmodulationagain.Continuewith1through
6aboveasneededuntilresultsareacceptable.
8. TurnofftheburnerwhenStep3iscompletedbeforeproceedingwith
setupforgascombustion,Step4.
Thelinkage between the damper motor arm and
the air damper crankissetatthefactory, and
shouldONLYneedadjustmentifthedampermotor
orthedamperrodisreplaced.Withtheburnerin
high-reposition,thereshouldbeminimalplayin
theconnectingrod.DONOTchangethislinkage
setting.
Step 1 (ring on oil)
Set combustion head (Dimension “A”)
1. Allowtheburnertooperateapproximately15minutestoensuretheap-
plianceisheatedandcombustionissteady.
2. Settheoverredraftto-.02inchesw.c.,orasspeciedintheappliance
manual.

Thecombustionheadadjustingscrewisusedtosetthespacingbetween
theretentionringand throttle ring, regulating how muchairpasses
aroundtheretentionring.(SeeFigure16,page19.)Thelargerthevalue
ofdimensionA,thelargertheclearance,sothelargertheairow.The
smallerthevalueofdimensionA,thesmallertheairow.
4. Measurethe%CO
2
intheapplianceue.Thevalueshouldbeapproxi-
mately12.5%forhighreoil.IftheCO
2
ishigherthan12.5%,adjustthe
headadjustingscrew(seeFigure16,page19)toalargerdimensionA
toincreaseairow.IftheCO
2
islessthan12.5%,adjustthescrewtoa
smallerdimensionAtodecreaseairow.
5. Resetoverredraftto-.02inchesw.c.,orasspeciedintheappliance
manual,afteranyairowadjustment.
6. Checkthesmokevalueintheapplianceue.Itmustbezerotoatrace.
Ifnot,try increasing airow (reducingtheCO
2
). Ifincreasingairow
increasessmoke,thecombustionisprobablyonthewrongsideofthe
CO
2
curve.Tocorrect,increasetheairowuntilthesmokeiseliminated.
7. When adjustments arecompleted,theCO
2
mustbe between 12.0%
and12.5%athighreoil,withsmokeequaltozerooratrace.Overre
draftmustbe-.02inchesw.c.,orasspeciedintheappliancemanual.
Step 2 (ring on oil)
Set low-fire damper
1. Flipthelow-reswitchtolowre.
2. Theburnerfuelunitblockingvalvewillbedeactivated,andtheoilnozzle
pressurewilldropto100PSIG.
