Inspect/install fuel supply
Inspecttheoilsupplysystem.Ensurethatthefuellinesare
correctlysizedandinstalledandthatthefuelowisunob-
structed,theoiltankiscleanandonly#1or#2heatingoil
aresupplied.Failuretosupplyareliableoilowcouldresult
inlossofheatandpotentialsevereequipmentdamage.

Fuel supply to multiple burners
• Whenpossible,useseparatefuelsupplylinesforeachoilburner.Using
manifoldedoilsupplylinescancreateproblems.Ifthelinesareunder-
sized,operatingvacuumwillexceed limits.Ifthe linesareoversized,
fuelunitsmayhavedifcultypriming.Becausethelinesmustbesized
tohandlethecapacityofalltheburners,thelinesizewillalmostalways
betoolargewhenonlyasingleburnerisrunning.
• Ifmanifoldingcannotbeavoided,carefullysizethelinesfollowingthe
fuelunitsmanufacturer’sinstructions.
Fuel unit vacuum limitations
• SeeTable4forallowableliftsandlengthsofoillines.
• Thevacuumatthefuelunitinletportmustnotexceed12inchesmercury
duringanyoperatingcondition.
• Attachavacuumgaugetoeitherofthefuelunitinletports,andverify
thevacuumdoesnotexceedthelimitbelowduringallringconditions.

4. Install oil piping
Use two-line oil piping only
Thefuelunitmustbeconnectedtoatwo-line fuel
systemtoensureoilowthroughthepumpduring
gasoperation.Thisisneededtokeepthepump
coolandlubricated.Failureto protect the pump
canresultinearlypumpfailure.
Fuel unit bypass plug
Thefuelunitisshippedwithitsbypassplugnotin-
stalled.Installthebypassplugonlywhenconnecting
toatwo-lineoilsystem.Operatingwiththeplugin
placeonaone-linesystem(notrecommended)will
damagethefuelunitandcouldleadtooilleakage
andrehazard.
Ifthefuellineorfuelsupplyisabovetheburner,never
exceed3PSIGpressureatthefuelunitinlet.Install
asuitableOSVtoreducethepressure.Operating
thefuelunitwithhigherinletpressurecouldresult
infuelunitsealdamage,oilleakageandpotential
rehazard.
Guidelines:
• When installingoillines,use continuous runs of heavy-wall
coppertubingifpossible.
• Check fuelunit(oil pump) data sheet for recommended line
sizing,liftlimitationsandmaximumlength.
• Checkallconnectionsandjointstoensuretheyareair-tight.
• Usearettings.DONOTusecompressionttings.
• Neverusepipesealingtape.Fragmentscanbreakoffandplug
fuellinecomponents.
• Installashut-offvalveatthetankandoneneartheburner.(Use
fusiblehandledesignvalveswhenpossibleorwhenrequired
bycodes.)
• Installalargecapacityfuellter(ratedfor50micronsorless)
neartheburner.
