P - Error correction level

In order to guarantee in case of damages of the symbol (abrasion,

unsatisfactory print) further the correctness of data, there are three

different levels of error correction:

For the execution of error correction, further code words with data for

the error correction according to fixed given samples are added to the

code words with reference data. Correspondingly the number of

reference data decreases.

By means of the error correction the following error types can be

recognised and removed:

• Erasures: Not decodable / readable code word at known

position.

• Errors: Wrong decoded code word at unknown position.

R - Rotation of code

0 = 0 degrees, 1 = 90 degrees, 2 = 180 degrees, 3 = 270 degrees
