10 Installing the Software and USB Driver Installing the Software and USB Driver Start by installing the software from the Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk. •You must install the software before you connect the camera to the computer. •Users of Windows XP Professional and Windows 2000 must first log in as an Administrator (computer system administrator) to install programs.
11 4 Click [Software Installation]. Installer Panel Click [Next]. Read the software license agreement and click [Yes] if you consent to all the conditions. How to Display the Installer Panel Use the following procedures to display the installer panel if it does not appear automatically. Windows XP 1. Select [My Computer] from the [Start] menu. 2. Right-click the CD-ROM icon and select [Open]. 3. Double-click the [Setup.exe] icon. Windows 2000, Windows Me, Windows 98 1.
12 Installing the Software and USB Driver 7 Confirm the installation destination and click [Next]. Installation destination 8 Select the programs you wish to install and click [Next]. Confirm that there is a check mark beside the names of the programs you wish to install. The USB driver (the software for connecting) is required when the camera is connected to the computer with a USB cable. Ensure that you select a USB driver from below (the appropriate one for your operating system).
13 9 Review the installation settings and click [Next]. The items displayed here differ according to the software installed. 10 Click [OK] if the following message appears. This message will display if you selected and installed the USB driver in Step 8. 11 When the installation is over, select [Yes, I want to restart my computer now.] and click [Finish].
14 Installing the Software and USB Driver 12 Remove the disk from the CD-ROM drive when your normal desktop screen appears after restarting. This concludes the software installation. Continue by connecting the camera to the computer so that the USB driver can be utilized. If you installed a USB driver, so far the required files have only been copied to your computer. You must now connect the camera to the computer with the USB cable to complete the installation and prepare the driver for use.
15 Windows 2000/Windows Me/Windows 98 The "Add New Hardware Wizard" will appear after a few moments and the USB driver will automatically install. The USB driver selected in Step 8 will automatically install. Restart the computer according to the instructions if you are prompted to do so by a message. •See USB driver installation not proceeding well in the Troubleshooting section (p. 96) if you are having problems installing the USB driver. •See Uninstalling the USB Driver (p.

18 Downloading Images to the Computer Downloading Images to the Computer Begin by starting up ZoomBrowser EX and downloading images to your computer. The startup procedures vary slightly according to whether you are connecting the camera to the computer or using a memory card reader. •The first time you start ZoomBrowser EX, all the images that have not previously been downloaded will download to the folder shown in the [Save to] section of the Download image window (p. 20).
19 A dialog (Events dialog) similar to that below will appear after a moment. Select the application program you wish to start from the list in this dialog. Your camera model name or "Canon Camera" will appear here. Select an application program here. If the Events Dialog Does not Appear Perform the following procedures. 1 2 3 Double-click the [ZoomBrowser EX] icon on the desktop. Click [Camera & Memory Card] when ZoomBrowser EX starts. Click [Browse & Download Images] in the next menu.
20 Downloading Images to the Computer 2 Select [Canon ZoomBrowser EX] and click [OK]. A dialog allowing you to select the camera model will display if a camera and a memory card reader are connected at the same time. Confirm that your model name or "Canon Camera" is displayed and click [OK]. This will display the Download image window. 3 Click [Start download]. Images will be downloaded to this folder. The camera images download to the computer.
21 When downloading is complete, the thumbnails (tiny versions) of the downloaded images display in ZoomBrowser EX’s main window. Windows - The Basics - Next, print out the images (p. 24).
22 Downloading Images to the Computer Memory Card Connection 1 Insert the memory card into the reader. Use a separately sold card adapter (PCMCIA adapter) if required. See the manual for the memory card for its connection and handling instructions. Place the memory card in an adapter if required. 2 Insert the loaded adapter into the slot. Start ZoomBrowser EX. Double-click the [ZoomBrowser EX] icon on the desktop. 3 Click [Camera & Memory Card]. 4 Click [Browse & Download Images] in the next menu.
23 A selection dialog will appear if multiple memory card readers loaded with memory cards are connected or if a camera and memory card reader are connected. Select one device and click [OK]. The Download image window will appear. 5 Click [Start Download]. to this folder. The memory card images download to the computer. The downloaded images are saved into folders according to the shooting date.
24 Printing Images Printing Images You will use a program called PhotoRecord to print images. This section explains the basic procedures for PhotoRecord. See the program’s [Help] menu for more details. Movies cannot be printed. 1 Click [Print] in the main window. 2 Click [Layout Print] in the next menu. 3 Click on the image(s) you wish to print and click the [Next] button at the window's bottom right. The background color of the selected images will change to orange.
25 4 Place a check mark beside the data you wish to include with the print (multiple selections are possible) and click [Finish]. For example, you can print the shooting date and time with the image if you select [Date and Time] here. The PhotoRecord printing utility will start, displaying the selected image and the information selected in Step 4 in the Album window. In addition, the steps that will take you through the printing process will display on the left side.
26 Printing Images 5 Click [2 Select Printer & Album Type] and select a printer and album type. Select the printer. Select the album type. •You can select either the [Booklet] or [Simple Album] option for the [Album] category in the [Album Type] section. By selecting [Booklet], you can create a margin at the left side so the images can be kept in an album. Selecting [Simple Album] creates equal margins on both sides. To adjust the margin, click [Margins] and change the value.
27 7 Click [Decorate Album] and change the design of the image background and border as required. Click the [Themes], [Backgrounds], [Photo Frames], [Text Frames] or [Clipart] button to switch between selections. •The [Themes] category provides consistent designs for use throughout an entire album. Selecting a theme automatically sets the background, image border and text border for all images. •You can also click [Add Titles & Captions] to add text as a title or caption.
28 Printing Images 9 Click to close PhotoRecord. A message will display asking you whether or not save the album layout. Select [Yes] to save it or [No] to cancel it. The ZoomBrowser EX screen will reappear after the file processing is complete. This concludes the printing process. Printing One Image Per Page In Step 5, select the [Other] category in the [Album Type] section, followed by [One Photo Per Page]. Printing a Contact Sheet To print a contact sheet, select [Contact Sheet Print] in Step 2.
29 - Advanced Techniques This chapter explains various ZoomBrowser EX features, such as how to play movies and create panoramic images. Proceed to this chapter once you have mastered the basic ZoomBrowser EX procedures in the Using the Software on the Windows Platform - The Basics chapter.
30 The ZoomBrowser EX Windows The ZoomBrowser EX Windows ZoomBrowser EX has two windows: the Main Window and the Camera Window. This topic explains the features of these two windows. Main Window This window can be used to organize the images downloaded to the computer. It can also be used for other purposes, such as printing images and attaching them to e-mail messages. Folders Area Select image folders here. As in Windows Explorer, you can view the contents of the folders.
31 Camera Window This window can be used to view images in the camera (or memory card) and download the images to the computer as you confirm them. A window allowing you to specify the download destination opens when you select images and click the [Download image] button. The images from the camera (or memory card) display here. Function Buttons These buttons apply functions to images selected in the Camera Window.
32 Checking Images before Downloading Checking Images before Downloading You can check camera or memory card images in the Camera Window before processing them. You can also choose to download only the images you select in the Camera Window. 1 2 Display the Download image window. To download images from a camera, follow Steps 1-2 in the Camera to Computer Connection section (p. 18). To download images from a memory card, follow Steps 1-4 in the Memory Card Connection section (p. 22).
33 3 Click on images in the Camera Window that you wish to download. The background color of the selected images will change to orange. If you are downloading images previously selected with the camera’s [Transfer Order] setting, click [Select] and select [Select Send mark]. 4 Click [Download image]. 5 Confirm the destination folder and click [OK]. Specify the destination folder for the image(s). (You can change the destination folder by clicking [Browse] and selecting a new destination.
34 Checking Images before Downloading At this point the Camera Window will close and the main window will open. The downloaded images will appear in the main window. Main Window Other Methods of Downloading Images to the Computer * Windows XP Your camera uses a standard image transfer protocol called the Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP). With the PTP and Windows XP, all you need do is connect the camera to the computer with a USB cable to download images.
35 Replaying Movies When you double-click an image with a movie icon in the ZoomBrowser EX’s Browser Area, QuickTime Player will start and replay the movie. 1 2 Double-click an image with a movie icon. QuickTime Player will start. in QuickTime Do not double-click a movie file (.AVI extension) in the Windows Explorer to play it. That will start Windows Media Player, which may not support this file type.
36 Searching Images Searching Images You can search for images marked as your Favorites or by such parameters as the modification date, shooting date or keywords. The procedures for marking images as Favorites and adding keywords to them are explained in the following pages. 1 Select a folder to search in the Browser Area. 2 Click [View & Modify], followed by [Search] in the next menu. 3 Set the search parameters. Place a check mark in the parameter you wish to use.
37 4 Click [Next] after setting the search parameters. The images satisfying the parameters will be displayed. Images satisfying the search parameters 5 This concludes the search process. A new folder called the Search Results folder will be created in the main window and will contain the images that met the search criteria. Images in this folder can be selected, printed and saved to another folder. The images will display in this folder until ZoomBrowser EX is closed or another search is performed.
38 Searching Images This concludes the process for marking an image as one of your favorites. The symbol shown below is displayed on images marked as your favorites. Favorites Symbol Adding Keywords to Images Add searchable keywords to images. 1 2 3 Select the image in the Browser Area and click Click [View/Modify Keywords]. (Properties). To add an existing keyword to an image, click the keyword to add a check mark beside it. Select an existing keyword to add to an image.
39 Operating the Shutter Remotely You can record still images by using a computer to control the shutter of a connected camera. This is particularly useful for checking images on the larger display of the computer as you record them and for high volume photography without worrying about filling the camera’s memory card. See Information about Your Camera (p. 105) to see whether your camera model is compatible with this feature. ZoomBrowser EX is displaying its main window.
40 Operating the Shutter Remotely RemoteCapture Task Window The RemoteCapture Task window has the following features. Shows/Hides the viewfinder or detailed settings area. Size and Resolution Selector Selects the size and resolution at which images are captured. Rotation Settings Sets the rotation parameters for images after they are captured. You can add comments to images by placing a check mark here and typing text in the boxes below.
41 Remote Shooting Ensure that you turn off your computer’s standby mode before you begin remote shooting. The device performance cannot be guaranteed if the computer enters the standby mode. 1 If your camera is equipped with the Auto Rotate function and you set it to On, the image will automatically be rotated and appear in the correct viewing orientation in the RemoteCapture Task window. 3 Click the [Release] button. The image will record.
42 Operating the Shutter Remotely Interval Timer Shooting Interval timer shooting is a method of shooting that records a specified number of frames at set intervals. 1 2 3 4 Click the [Shooting] menu in the RemoteCapture Task window and select [Interval Timer Shooting]. Click [OK] in the confirmation dialog. The Interval Timer Shooting window will display. Set the number of frames and the interval value and click [Start]. This will record the specified number of frames at the specified interval.
43 Other Features Changing the File Saving Method 1 2 Click the [File] menu in the RemoteCapture Task window and select [Preferences]. This will display the Preferences dialog. Select a file settings option and click [OK]. Input a root name for the image files here. If you input “Capture”, for example, the first image will be named [Capture_00001.jpg] and successive images will automatically be assigned a name that is one number higher than the last. The recorded images are saved to this folder.
44 Merging Panoramic Images - PhotoStitch Merging Panoramic Images - PhotoStitch You can create a wide panoramic image by merging several images, such as those shot in the camera's Stitch Assist mode. Use the PhotoStitch program to merge the images. Starting PhotoStitch Start PhotoStitch from ZoomBrowser EX. 1 2 Click [View & Modify] in the ZoomBrowser EX’s main window and [Stitch Photos] in the next menu. Select a series of images in the Browser Area and click [Finish].
45 Images Shot in Stitch Assist Mode It is easy to merge images shot with the camera's Stitch Assist mode since PhotoStitch automatically arranges them in the correct order and orientation. Stitch Assist mode images appear in the Camera Window as shown below. Images shot in Stitch Assist mode display a mark like this. Windows - Advanced Techniques - •You can start PhotoStitch by clicking the mark shown on images shot in Stitch Assist mode.
46 Saving Images on CD-R/RW Disks (Windows XP Only) Saving Images on CD-R/RW Disks (Windows XP Only) You can copy and save ZoomBrowser EX images to CD-R/RW disks. The shooting information is copied along with the images. This feature is only possible on computers that satisfy the following requirements. •Windows XP was pre-installed on the computer •The CD-R/RW drive came as standard equipment with the computer 1 2 3 4 Place a CD-R/RW disk in the drive.
47 Enjoy Customizing Your Camera with the My Camera Settings The start-up image, start-up sound, shutter sound, operation sound, and selftimer sound are called the My Camera Settings. You can add your favorite images and sounds from your computer to the My Camera Settings. This topic explains how to upload the My Camera Settings saved onto your computer to the camera and vice versa. Use ZoomBrowser EX to perform this function. To save the My Camera Settings to the camera, you use the My Camera window.
48 Enjoy Customizing Your Camera with the My Camera Settings The My Camera Window Features Tabs Click here to switch between adjusting the settings individually or in themed sets. If the [Set individually] tab is selected, the Data Type can also be selected. Play Button Click here to play sounds recorded onto the camera. Displays the list of My Camera Settings files saved onto the computer. Displays the My Camera Settings in the camera. Delete Button Deletes a setting from the Camera list.
49 Saving the My Camera Settings to the Camera You can save the My Camera Settings displayed in the My Camera window to the camera. •Settings that do not appear in the My Computer list of the My Camera window cannot be saved to the camera. •Do not detach the USB cable, turn the camera power off or disconnect the camera from the computer while the My Camera Settings are being saved to the camera or the settings from the camera are being saved to the computer.
50 Enjoy Customizing Your Camera with the My Camera Settings Saving the Camera’s My Camera Settings to the Computer The My Camera Settings on the camera can be saved to the computer. My Camera Settings can be selected and saved in either of two ways to the computer: individually or in theme sets. 1 2 3 4 Confirm that the [Setup as a theme] tab is selected in the My Camera window.
51 Adding New Data to the My Camera Window To add new data to the My Camera window, you need to create it, save it to the computer and add that file to the My Camera window. Create an Original Start-up Image File and then Add It Start by using an image editing program to create the image file that will become the start-up image and save it to the computer. Create the file in the JPEG format at a size of (w) 320 x (h) 240 pixels.
52 Enjoy Customizing Your Camera with the My Camera Settings Create an Original Sound File and then Add It The following example shows how to record and create a start-up sound file using the My Camera Sound Maker window. QuickTime is required to play the recorded sound. 1 2 Click the [Camera] menu in the ZoomBrowser EX main window and select [Create a My Camera Sound]. The My Camera Sound Maker window will display. Click the tab of the sound file you will be creating, followed by the [Record] button.
53 4 When the recording is complete, click the [Stop] button, followed by the [Close] button. Recording will stop after 30 seconds elapses even if the Stop button is not clicked. In that case, just click the [Close] button. The following window will appear. Starting position of sound (blue switch). 5 6 7 8 Finishing position of sound (red switch) Play Stop Rewind Click the [Sound Format] button as required and select a sound format. Edit the sound data so that it conforms to the time limits.
54 Enjoy Customizing Your Camera with the My Camera Settings You can add the file to the camera with the procedures described in the Saving the My Camera Settings to the Camera section (p. 49). •To delete a setting, select the file name and click the [Delete] button at the bottom of the My Computer list. •Record the sound as an 11.025 kHz or 8.000 kHz, 8 bit, mono sound in the WAV format. The following chart shows standard time lengths for My Camera Sounds. Type Duration in Seconds 11.025 kHz 8.

60 Starting ImageBrowser Starting ImageBrowser Begin by starting up ImageBrowser. The startup procedures vary according to whether you are connecting the camera to the computer or using a memory card reader. Camera to Computer Connection Mac OS X 1 Attach the supplied USB cable to the computer’s USB port and the camera’s Digital Terminal. Prepare the camera for communication with the computer.
61 5 Confirm that [USB port] is selected as the port option and that your camera model name or [Canon Camera] are selected as the detected camera. Click [Set]. Your camera model name or [Canon Camera] and the USB port number (e.g. @1) will appear here. iPhoto or Image Capture may automatically start up at the same time as the Camera Window. Step 6 is not required when neither program starts up automatically. 6 7 Click the icon at the top left of the iPhoto or Image Capture window to close the program.
62 Starting ImageBrowser How to Set ImageBrowser to Start Automatically with Mac OS X You can have ImageBrowser start automatically when you connect the camera to the computer by adjusting the following settings. Mac OS X v10.2 1. Start Image Capture, click the [Image Capture] menu and select [Preferences]. 2. In the next menu, click the [Camera Preferences] list box and select [Other]. 3. Select [ImageBrowser] in the program selection window. 4. Close Image Capture.
63 ImageBrowser will start and open the ImageBrowser Automation Wizard dialog. 2 Confirm that [Display Images] is selected and click the [OK] button. Confirm that this option is selected. The Communication Settings dialog will display. This dialog only appears the first time the camera is connected. 3 Confirm that [USB port] is selected as the port option and that your camera model name or [Canon Camera] are selected as the detected camera. Click [Set].
64 Starting ImageBrowser What to Do the Next Time ImageBrowser is Started A dialog with the previously selected automated settings will display the next time you start ImageBrowser. To use these settings unchanged, click the [Start] button. To do nothing, click [Cancel]. To change the settings, click [Settings change]. To change the settings, click [Settings Change] and select the desired action in the ImageBrowser Automation Wizard dialog. How to Set ImageBrowser to Not Start Automatically 1.

67 Downloading Images to the Computer Creating a Folder to Receive Downloaded Images Create a new folder for downloaded images with the following procedures. 1 2 Click the window labeled [Browser Window] and bring it to the foreground. Select the [Users] folder and the subfolder labeled with your user name on the startup disk. Mac OS 9 users should select [Macintosh HD] in the Explorer View section. Explorer View Section 3 Click the [File] menu and select [New Folder].

70 Printing Images Printing Images Printing 1 Select the image(s) you wish to print. A blue frame appears around selected images. 78 Operating the Shutter Remotely Interval Timer Shooting Interval timer shooting is a method of shooting that records a specified number of frames at set intervals. 1 2 3 4 Click the [Edit] menu in the RemoteCapture Task window and select [Interval Timer Shooting]. Click [OK] in the confirmation dialog. The Interval Timer Shooting window will display. Set the number of frames and the interval value and click [Start]. This will record the specified number of frames at the specified interval.
79 Other Features Changing the File Saving Method 1 2 Click the [RemoteCapture Task] menu and select [Preferences]. For Mac OS 9, click the [File] menu and select [Preferences]. A window similar to the one in step 2 will appear. Select a file settings option and click [OK]. Sets whether images are saved only to the computer or to both the computer and the memory card in the camera. Input a root name for the image files here.
80 Merging Panoramic Images - PhotoStitch Merging Panoramic Images - PhotoStitch You can create a wide panoramic image by merging several images, such as those shot in the camera's Stitch Assist mode. Use the PhotoStitch program to merge the images. Starting PhotoStitch Start PhotoStitch from ImageBrowser. 1 2 Select a series of images in the ImageBrowser’s Browser Area. Click the [Edit] menu and select [PhotoStitch]. A window similar to that below will appear.

Stitch Assist mode images appear in the Camera Window as shown below. 82 Enjoy Customizing Your Camera with the My Camera Settings Enjoy Customizing Your Camera with the My Camera Settings The start-up image, start-up sound, shutter sound, operation sound, and selftimer sound are called the My Camera Settings. You can add your favorite images and sounds from your computer to the My Camera Settings. This topic explains how to upload the My Camera Settings saved onto your computer to the camera and vice versa. Use ImageBrowser to perform this function.
