III/II IMAGE PROCESSOR
The backbone of a good
digital camera is the signal
processing technology.
Developed for high
performance capturing and
recording of digital images,
Canon’s III/II chip
speeds up processing, compression and display.
With superior color reproduction, bright, high-
saturation subjects achieve natural color rendition
and white balance. The latest-generation III
Image Processor works in concert with Canon’s CMOS
sensors and DDR SDRAM buffer to achieve even
higher levels of performance. The processor’s
outstanding power and speed deliver dramatically
improved image quality and performance. Power
consumption has been further reduced for even
longer battery life. Color reproduction and noise
reduction in low light situations have been
significantly improved as well.
EF LENSES
With more than 50 EF lenses, the EOS System boasts
one of the world’s most comprehensive selection of
autofocus lenses. All EF lenses feature Canon’s
advanced optical technology, offering quality,
breadth and scope to photographers everywhere.
L–Series Lenses have a reputation in the professional
photography world for remarkable performance.
Their lens construction typically includes UD (Ultra-
low Dispersion) glass, fluorite or aspherical elements
coated with Super Spectra Coating for incredible
clarity and brilliant colors. EF-S lenses were developed
for EOS SLRs with APS-C size sensors. Lightweight
and compact, these lenses take advantage of the
sensor’s size to deliver optimized performance
without compromising image quality. For
instantaneous, quiet autofocus, Canon developed
the world’s first USM (Ultrasonic Motor) for a lens.
To prevent blurred images when
shooting in low light or at slow
shutter speeds, many EF lenses are
equipped with Optical Image Stabilizer technology
that corrects camera shake by shifting a lens group
to realign the image on the imaging sensor or film.
CMOS SENSOR
Canon developed its
CMOS sensors for digital
SLRs, taking advantage of
proprietary knowledge from the development and
manufacturing of its renowned autofocus sensors
and semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
Unlike CCD sensors, which amplify signals only
after they have been transferred to an image
processor, CMOS sensors convert and amplify signals
before they are transferred. As a result, Canon’s
CMOS sensors produce a cleaner signal, and power
consumption is reduced by up to 90% compared
to CCDs. Using multi-channel signal paths, Canon
has significantly increased data transfer speeds,
dramatically improving camera responsiveness.
In addition, Canon’s CMOS sensors include unique
on-chip noise reduction technology
to minimize both fixed pattern
and random noise, resulting
in silky-smooth images.
EOS SYSTEM ACCESSORIES
The EOS System is unrivaled in its comprehensive
array of accessories, ranging from battery grips to
focusing screens to remote
controls, that enhance power,
customization and speed.
Also, EOS cameras and
EX-series Speedlites
work in tanden to
deliver great expo-
sures and automatic
balanced fill-in-flash.
