Introduction
The text sets forth the academic preparation and operational tasks
required for the Airborne Photographer and Videography Information
Technology Specialist positions, and supplemental training for qualified
SAR/DR Mission Pilots that concentrates on the unique aspects of imaging
(photography or video) missions. This text, instructor guides, PowerPoint
presentations and examinations comprise the CAP National Emergency
Services Academy Mission Aircrew School (NESA MAS) Airborne
Photographer (AP) and Videography Information Technology (VIT)
Specialist courses.
Airborne Photographer
The Airborne Photographer (AP) serves as a member of a Civil Air
Patrol (CAP) flight crew and is tasked with taking airborne photographs
and/or video of specified targets in such a way that we completely meet or
exceed our customer’s objectives and needs.
Videography Information Technology Specialist
The Videography Information Technology (VIT) Specialist manages
and operates camera and computer equipment in support of photography or
video imaging missions. This specialist will receive, transfer, organize and
manipulate photos or video as needed to accomplish mission objectives.
The specialist will also assist in maintaining cameras, camcorders,
computers, software and accessories, and training or assisting personnel on
computer-related tasks.
SAR/DR Mission Pilot
In addition to the normal duties and responsibilities of a SAR/DR
Mission Pilot (MP), the MP plans and flies aerial photo or video sorties
utilizing all available imaging sortie flight patterns and techniques. The
MP works closely with the Airborne Photographer to ensure the success of
each imaging sortie. NOTE: Mission Pilots who don’t wish to qualify as a
Airborne Photographer are encouraged to fly some sorties as a AP trainee
to better appreciate the needs of the AP and improve communications
between the crewmembers.
