CHAPTER 2 OPERATION AND TIMING
3. Details of the Procedures
a. Network Interruption (phase 1)
V.8 is executed as the start-up procedure for high-speed modem V.34.
In V.8, the most appropriate modulation method (V series modem mode) that is possible between
transmitting and receiving devices is determined.

Description
Is a 1100-Hz tone signal
prescribed by T.30 indicating that
the device is a fax initiating an
automatic ring.
Indicates possible modulation
methods (V.21, V.27ter, V.29,
V17, V.34, etc.).
Indicates detection of a JM signal
and the end of a CM signal.
Indicates general communication
functions.
Sent when resuming the V.8
procedure.
