Problem: Aligning the red lines when they cannot be seen from the
fundus camera screen.
Problem: Patient cannot see the target light.
Problem: Patients pupils are too small.
Problem: Getting rid of artifacts.
Problem: Patient blinks a lot.
Solutions:
Ask the Patient to look at the red lines and tell you when they are
aligned.
Try lowering the lamp light (this will not affect the pictures).
Move the focusing knobs back and forth sometimes this brings
the lines into your plane of view.
Solutions:
Press on the Fixation Target button on the fundus camera (this
will make the target light blink for the patient).
Use your hands to guide the optic disk toward the right location.
Solutions:
Dilate.
Use the Small Pupil setting.
Ask them to wiggle their toes and close their eyes for a minute.
Solution: Clean the camera lens by using a lens cloth and wiping it in a
vertical and horizontal motion.
Solutions:
Ask the patient to blink twice and take the photo right after their
second blink.
Give patient tear drops to moisten their eyes.
